  • The skill that I will teach to Danielle that has a social validity is Statement-Response Skill. Considering her condition, age, and educational level, providing responses in a certain situation or conversation will help improve her social circle.

  • Task Analysis for Statement-Response Skill

GOAL: Student will verbally respond to situation or question.

Phase A:

1.) Call Danielle's name ("Danielle!").

2.) Prompt her by making her repeat "Yes?" after you said it. (Danielle: "Yes?") The goal is to enable her to answer "Yes?" whenever her name is being called.

3.) Answer her back by saying a response (example: "I like your shirt").

4.) Prompt her by saying "Thank you" after you said it.

5.) Answer her back by saying "You're welcome".

A. I will be using full and partial verbal prompts to Danielle since this is a conversational skill. I will provide verbal cues such as repeating the response more than once and or making the beginning sound of the response.

B. I will fade prompts step by step until Danielle can respond to the statement independently. First is I will provide full verbal prompts by saying the response first then she has to repeat it afterwards. After some trial, I will fade it by using partial verbal prompts like only saying the beginning sound of the response ( ex: saying "Tha-" instead of "Thank you"). Eventually after some time, I will not provide any verbal prompts because she can say a response independently.

C. I will use total-task chaining for this skill because I would like to make sure that Danielle will have a mastery for each steps required with regards to the skill that I am teaching her.

D. With regards to the four procedures of behavioral skills training procedure which are the following: Instruction, Modeling, Rehearsal, and Feedback; I would like to emphasize the usage of Rehearsal for this skill because this type of social skill which is Statement- Response, requires a lot of practice since it is necessary to master an appropriate response for each situation or question. Danielle needs to know verbal cues so that she can provide a response whenever it is needed.

  • I will provide some primary reinforcers like food or drink that Danielle prefers. Also, I will give it immediately after she completed the task since according to Shresthra (2017), providing immediate reinforcers is effective for students in repeating the same response again.
