Public concern for the natural environment has been increasing over the last few decades with people suggesting things such as earth jurisprudence or even earth justice.
In different nations, suggestions have been there to have the law carved in to enable it to protect the environment as well as effectively regulate the businesses which pollute the environment and embrace labor practices that are in support of the same goal. Regulations such as the National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants and the Environmental Protection Act exist to ensure that organizations take the appropriate and necessary steps to conserve the environment. Companies that employ many workers must insist on the quality of not being destructive to the environment so as to support long-term ecological balance. With regards to labor and fair employment practices, employees are encouraged to join unions which can negotiate better employment terms for them.
In America, statutes such as Social Security Act, Equal Pay Act, Federal Unemployment Tax Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act as well as the Occupational Safety and Health Act are among those laws that mandate organizations to feel obliged in the wellbeing of their employees. Federal and state governments have come up with rules and regulations that ensure that there is equal opportunity for employment for people who are historically disadvantaged at the place of work. For instance, the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 states that discrimination in the workplace on the basis of race, color, origin, sex or religion is illegal. Thus, an employer is not able to lawfully decide to hire, fire, pay or establish terms, privileges or conditions of employments on the basis of these categories that are protected by law.
