2. How effective are anti-depressive medications on anxiety and depression?
To answer this question most fully, a non-interventional quantitative study would be best. In this type of research, the researchers do nothing to the subject outside of measuring the relationship between the variables. This is often done through the completion of a survey. This type of descriptive research is often done when knowledge about the concept is not complete but acute measurements will allow for further understanding. This is the case in the above question posed for this discussion. One of the strengths of a quantitative study is that they result in reliable data that is easily analyzed. A weakness of quantitative research is the lack of full explanation of the phenomenon (Sutherland, 2019. P. 37-40).
3. For patients of 70 years and older, how effective is the use of the influenza vaccine at preventing flu as compared to patients who have not received the vaccine?
This question would be best answered through an interventional qualitative study. This type of study applies interventions (receiving the flu vaccine) to experimental subjects but not to the control subjects (those who did not get the vaccine). This allows the effect of the intervention to be measured. To answer this question and determine if the intervention was successful, one must know if the getting the flu shot decreased an individual’s risk of getting the flu in this patient population, making a quantitative study the best option (Gray, 2019. P. 37-40).
6.What is the difference in attitudes of male and female college students toward condoms?
A qualitative approach is the best way to answer the question posed here. Qualitative research is used to describe life experiences and culture by those who are experiencing it. This type of research seeks perspective, allowing for exploration of the complexity of certain phenomena. To answer this question, the researcher must understand the viewpoint of the college students and this information would be best gained in the interview format of a qualitative study. One of the weakness of this type of study is the lack of statistical analysis regarding the given concept (Gray, 2019. P. 62-67).
