PRODUCTIVITY AND OPERATIONS IN ORGANIZATIONS

World Class Manufacturing

This SLP will focus on manufacturing. Select a large manufacturing company based outside of the United States and an American organization that both produce the same product type and analyze if they can be considered world class manufacturers.

Introduction (2-3 sentences)

Provide background information on the two manufacturing companies that will be analyzed (name of company, parent country and industry). Explain that you will be analyzing the two for world class manufacturing techniques used. NOTE: Introductions and conclusions may be written after the body of the paper is completed.

World Class Manufacturing (1½ pages)

Research the tenets and principles of world class manufacturing. Provide a well-balanced overview of the philosophy and practice. Include a discussion of how productivity is measured. (research required)

You must use at least one article from the Trident Library databases for this section. You are not permitted to use consultant sites for this part of the assignment. There are many of these sites that will come up when you search “world class manufacturing.”

International Company (1/2 page)

Using a combination of the company’s website and resources from third-party professional, government or academic publications, investigate at least two areas in which the entity can be assessed for world class manufacturing. NOTE: your conclusion may be that the company does not meet the standards. No consulting sites may be used for this section. (research required)

U.S. Company (1/2 page)

Using a combination of the company’s website and resources from third-party professional, government or academic publications, investigate at least two areas in which the entity can be assessed for world class manufacturing. NOTE: your conclusion may be that the company does not meet the standards. No consulting sites may be used for this section. (research required)

Conclusion (2-3 sentences)

Wrap up the discussion with an overview of findings plus areas where you believe future research is warranted.

Effective academic and research writing requires a third-person voice. This SLP will be written in the third person. Do not use any quotations. Refer to yourself in third person as “participant,” or you can write about what the “player” will do, rather than saying “I” or “we.” Since you are engaging in research, be sure to cite and reference the sources in APA format. Note: Failure to use research with accompanying citations to support content will result in reduced scoring “Level 2-Developing” for Assignment-Driven Criteria, Critical Thinking and Assignment Organization and Quality of References on the grading rubric.
