Leadership Styles

Introduction

The effectiveness of leadership is determined by the results obtained. Good and positive styles of leadership attract higher levels of success while negative styles of leadership attract failure. Some of the positive leadership styles that prove beneficial to an organization include charismatic, ethical and authentic styles. Charismatic leadership induces an aspiration among other people, thus attaining their devotion towards their work and the organization (Anderson & Sun 2017). Ethical leadership ensures that the right decisions are made for the benefit of all stakeholders while wrong decisions are avoided at all costs. Authentic leadership style is effective in that it enables one to create honest relationship with other people, appreciate their roles and thus enhance a good working relationship. Various negative leadership styles include autocratic, transactional, bullying, bureaucratic and narcissism. An autocratic leader has absolute power and has not space to listen to other stakeholders. A bullying leader threatens the employees and reduces their ability to be satisfied with their respective jobs. Being bureaucratic means that there is a big communication gap between the leader and the rest of the employees, straining the ability to receive feedback (Anderson & Sun 2017). A transactional leader concentrates on short term goals of the firm and neglects the long term ambitions, at the detriment of the long-term competitiveness of the organization. Narcissism leadership style produces a leader who is full of self-importance at the expense of other parties. While the positive leadership styles enables the firm to perform better, the negative styles limits the ability to attain the set goals and objectives.
