HLTH 126: Introduction to Holistic and Complementary Health is a general education course designed to assist students in the development of critical life skills. One of the goals of this assignment is to assess student competence for each of these objectives:
Written and Oral Communication—research the philosophical foundations and practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine as practiced in China or research the philosophical foundations of Ayurvedic Medicine as practiced in India. CCO objectives 3, 4
Critical Analysis and Reasoning— examine various mind, body, spirit health care practices as well as their associated social political constructs and group identities. CCO objective 2
Information Literacy— find, evaluate, utilize, and cite academic resources related to holistic and complementary health. CCO objective 15
Local and Global Diversity— investigate global and cultural perspectives of well-being, healing and holism as they compare to the allopathic method of health using technological resources. CCO objective 1
Personal and Professional Ethics—demonstrate personal responsibility, self-care, and self-reflection in the practice of holistic health methods CCO objective 9
Assignment Purpose: Through this capstone assignment students review, reflect on, and personalize information and concepts from the course. Students apply a relevant holistic practice to their own life and compare it to an allopathic practice; and discuss general access to holistic health care in the US.
Assignment Audience: The target audience is the course instructor.
Assignment Instructions: You may choose one of the following complementary/alternative medical (CAM) systems: Traditional Chinese Medicine or Ayurveda.
ASSIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS:
This paper should be a minimum of four (4) pages, typed, Times New Roman 12 point font. It should be double-spaced, with 1” margins. Please do not include graphics. The title page and Works Cited page should not be included in the total page count.
Use APA style format for documenting your sources both in your text and in your Works Cited page. Use in-text citations immediately following each quote, summary or paraphrasing of information.
A minimum of five (5) credible sources are required. One of those sources may be your textbook; if you choose to use the textbook, it must be cited in the text and in the Works Cited page as you would any other source.
GRADING: This assignment will be a minimum of 10% of your total course grade. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: Electronic submissions should be made with the student’s ID number (900#) as the file name through Blackboard. Student and instructor names should not appear on electronic submissions.
