We can contrast Campaign Zero with the movement for police abolition. The activists in Campaign Zero come out of the Black Lives Matter movement, as does the Derecka Purnell, the author of the piece for this board.  But their politics are different.

In what follows, I want you

(a) explain and evaluate Purnell's piece and

(b) compare its goals to that of Campaign Zero.

 

In particular, I want you to answer the following questions for explication:

What does Purnell mean by police abolition?

How did she come to the position that she has?

How would you compare and contrast her position with that of Campaign Zero?

I also want you to explore some questions for evaluation?

What do you think of the proposal for prison abolition?

If we were to abolish the police, what kinds of structures would we have to put in place?

Is your own position closer to Purnell or Campaign Zero? Or do you have a third position? Whichever it is, explain in some detail why this is your position.
