Below are some additional notes that may be of benefit in completing the  third phase of the MRA (Final Research Report) . I would highly recommend that each of you follow the instructions given exactly, and have multiple sections addressing each of the components posed. As well, please note that I have attached a  SAMPLE COPY of MRA #2 (linked here)  and below, and note the changed due date for submission.

Please be sure to review the copy of instructions for the  MRA#3 given by the professor, linked here .

Essentially, the point is thinking about HOW TO RESOLVE PROBLEMS – (1) Identify a problem. (2) research on the issue (both why it’s a problem and if there are existing solutions to it) and (3) how, in your own view and based on the research done, the problem can be solved. This is what you have done throughout the MRA process.

Length: 6-8 pages

Value: 20%

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:

The assignment MUST be:

· 12-pt font

· Times in New Roman style

· Double-Spaced (except for Sources page at the end, that is single-spaced)

· Must have page numbers at the bottom-right of page

· 6-8 pages total (no exceptions)

KEY ELEMENTS:

[1] Executive Summary

(***This section is based on your scholarly research, and should have in-text citations***)

Basically, this is the main summary of your entire report.

It should include:

1. description of the core ‘problem’ addressed

2. statement on why the current situation needs to be modified or changed

3. recommendation for action to the ‘target audience’ (person whom you are sending your final report).

[2] Context of the Problem

(***This section is based on your scholarly research, and should have in-text citations***)

In this section, you will provide background on the problem you have selected. Ensure to present as much detail as possible, and write with clarity when describing the issue selected.

1. statement of the core ‘problem’ of the social issue in focus

2. short overview of the root causes of the core ‘problem’

[3] Examining Existing Solutions

(***This section is based on your scholarly research, and should have in-text citations***)

1. In this part, you must both identify what are current/existing solutions to your problem, and also, logically, coherently, and succinctly detail why they are inadequate. That is, why don't the current approaches solve the problem? What is wrong with them? Do they not address some part of the problem? Are they missing something?

[4] Proposed Recommendations

In this part, you must outline what changes you will make to the current solutions, how they might be effective/improve the situations, and thus, detail why they are needed so urgently. You may also express your own solutions, and how they are more effective than existing ones, why that is the case, and overall, how they better resolve the issue.

1. provide a proposal of how the current approach  to the  ‘problem’ could/should be modified,  improved or entirely changed

2. include a statement emphasizing the urgency of action – basically why your proposal is important / how is the issue going to be resolved / differences recommendation would make / how it might impact of influence other public policy, and thus, why it should be implemented ‘straight away’

[5] Target Audience

Be sure to state the 'target audience' of your final report -- that is, the person who will both read the report and implement the changes you have listed (this is similar to MRA#2). You will also have to provide a URL link/contact information of this person where we can reach them.

1. include a URL link to the external recipient of the final research report

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/CITATIONS/ SUBMISSIONS

· Compile a list of complete and properly cited and formatted references on a separate page. Apply the selected citation style to all sources consulted. ***YOU MUST HAVE A WORK CITED PAGE AT THE END OF YOUR REPORT AND IN-TEXT CITATIONS THROUGHOUT YOUR REPORT, ALL IN APA FORMAT***.

1. 'Scholarly sources' can be journal articles, chapters in books, websites of government agencies or accredited online encyclopedias (excluding Wikipedia). Just be sure to avoid informal sources (e.g., blogs, social media websites, media/entertainment....).

2. Please be sure to cite WORK CITED in the APA format, a guidebook linked here.

3. Please be sure to cite IN-TEXT citations in  APA format, linked here .

4. Essentially, the format for in-text citations is just: (author last name, YEAR). So, if you borrow or paraphrase from a reading/course material, just cite as the following: "...China demonstrates a unique path towards modernity that diverges from, but yet, does not discount the presence of a Western modernity and others...(Peilin, 2015)...". If you use a direct quote, you must provide the page number(s): '...Some scholars forward the issue that "Eastern society and modernization have hardly been thought of together" (Peilin, 2015, p. 2)...'. Nonetheless, please be sure to cite, or I will have to deduct marks.
