In this paper I will explain the similarities and differences between a Toddler and a
Teenager. How they deal and cope with situations on a day -to -day life. The
challenges of raising children in a huge age difference in the same household. How to maintain
the two and the different obstacles you may come across.
Most parents of toddler and a teenager in the same household go thru this daily (including
I) dealing with a toddler who have temper tantrums and a teenager with attitudes can be
heard complaining and waiting for their little phases to be over. In my case I have learn to adjust
with their behavior and work on a strategy to ease my household.
Disciplining a toddler can feel sometimes be a battle. Despite their small size, they can
be impressively stubborn and strong-willed. Some examples of disciplining a toddler by placing
them in time out, no tv time, take away their toys and etc… Disciplining a teen can mean
different things for different parents. While for some parents, it is about keeping their children
under control, for others, it is about putting trust in their children and giving them the freedom to
make decisions while occasionally checking on them. Some examples for teen discipline maybe
grounding them, take away privileges (such as no cellphones, no video games, no hanging out
There are many similarities between these two that a lot of people would not think of
because the differences in age are so big. The most obvious similarity between the two is the
need for independence. Toddlers want to do EVERYTING by themselves. The most common
phrase among toddlers is “I do it” are my all-time favorite my son tells me “I got it”. As for
teenagers, also want to do things on their own they want to go out by themselves to prove that they
are growing up are the got it all figure out. The independence for both is the same though
because they want to prove something their growth.
The challenges and obstacles may face for a toddler is they don’t know how to express
their feelings verbally. Instead, they express by pointing are showing you what they want. Their
main obstacles are learning who they are and trying to figure out what they like.
The most significant challenge kids face at this stage is fear of uncertainty. Some discipline
strategies techniques can be use such to help discipline your toddler provide physical guidance; praise good behavior; ignore mild misbehavior and remove child from the situation.
