Why is the USA not using a single-payer health care system while millions of Americans are not accessing health services? What is wrong with single-payer (government based) insurance system?

 

USA is not using a single-payer health care system for two reasons, single-payer health care in which the government pays for universal coverage, usually by taxes, tends to keep premiums down: it assumes that the government will control and negotiate the price of medication and medical services and it removes the need for large private health insurance bureaucracy.

What is wrong with single-payer (government based) insurance system?

In the United States, as with the numbers of uninsured citizens, medical expenses have been rising inexorably for many years; the latter is currently projected to be as high as 47 million people. Some have long advocated a single-payer system as the most logical response to the ongoing health care coverage and affordability crisis. The federal government will eventually be liable for coverage of medical care rendered by physicians and hospitals under a single-payer health system
