Diagnosing autism spectrum disorder involves looking at the child's developmental history and behavior to make the diagnosis. The following are some diagnostic challenges of autism experienced in third-world countries;

1. Lack of qualified or trained professionals- In many remote areas found in the developing countries, it becomes hard to find a specialized professional who can help to successfully diagnose the autism disorder. These areas are normally affected by socioeconomic factors, which include low income and lack of education. Therefore, people in these areas may not understand what could be happening to the child with a suspected disorder, hence becoming a challenge to diagnose the disorder. Specialists could find it hard to reach in such remote areas.
2. Lack of funding- Due to low economy, diagnosis of the autism disorder may lack resources due to lack of funding. The diagnosis may require more experienced people and the use of public awareness, which may require funding by the countries' government. Due to the low economy, this may be challenging; hence the diagnosis becomes hard.
3. Due to a lack of trained specialists to conduct the diagnosis, the early symptoms of autism may be confused with that of other disorders. Autism-like symptoms can occur in children who experience stress, anxiety, and depression.
