Most of the American families are built on strong bond of support, love, and caring of family of the family into their system of values. The American families are characterized by different demographics including the type of families, the age of marriage, and the average number of children given birth by families. The majority, fifty-four percent, are living with a single parent. Just thirty-eight percent are living with two parents, including twenty-two percent who are living with only two parents and both parents in their first marriage. Moreover, some nine percent are living with remarried parents and seven percent live with cohabiting parents.

Nuclear families are the most common, but there are several other households in the United States with a different family set up or structure. This information is based on the American Community Survey that involved ten thousand two hundred and seventy-six different types of households. The most surprising demographic is the high and increasing number of single-parent families since, despite the decrease over the last fifty years in children living with two parents, most kids are still being raised in this type of family or living arrangement.
