Personally, the best mechanism that I can think in order to minimize the occurrence of blood flukes in the human population is the provision of water supply, treatment, and sanitation supply. The fundamental way of avoiding blood fluke infection is to avoid contact with fresh water infested with the parasite. That would only be possible if vulnerable individuals avoid swimming, wading, or any other aquatic activities in these water bodies from the skin to possible penetration; however, if any incident is likely to occur, routine mass distribution of medications to infected populations can be carried out. Regular care for all at-risk populations can minimize morbidity and mortality due to infection and deter new infection by restricting spread by reducing overall population incidence.
