At the start of this course, it is important to familiarize yourself with your classmates, the learning outcomes of our course, and our course environment. This will help you build a plan and support system to successfully complete your assignments. For this discussion, review the course syllabus and our course outcomes and then create a post that addresses the following topics:

1. Provide a short introduction of yourself to your peers and instructor. What personal or professional experiences have you encountered that are related to the general topics of this course?

2. After reviewing the course outcomes, what do these outcomes mean to you? How are these outcomes relevant to your own personal/professional experiences and interests?

3. After reviewing the course syllabus and the assignment guidelines for your Module One activities, what resources will you need in order to be successful in this course? How can your instructor and fellow classmates help you reach the outcomes of the course?

In responding to your peers, what additional resources can you share that will help you and your fellow classmates be successful? What commonalities do you share with your classmates? What opportunities can you explore for collaboration and peer support?

Nilsa Ramirez - Hello Everyone,

I'm Nilsa and it is great to be here. This is my last class to finalize my bachelor’s degree in business administration. I live in New York, the Bronx to be exact with my husband and two younger daughters. I am the owner of a beauty salon, and I'm hands on with just about everything involved in the business. I think that from the information I have read I can see this class being very challenging for me, it seems more than what I had expected. I haven't held any corporate positions, but I would like to in the future and I think what I will learn in this course will provide me with a realistic approach, a better sense and experience of the real world and help me to face those challenges. In my position marketing and differentiation have been an asset to my business and learning how to incorporate some of the other components of a competitive marketplace as mentioned will be beneficial to me. So far, what I have gathered from the syllabus and assignments I will need some help. I'm not familiar with Capsim however, I look forward to learning how to use it, this whole experience and with the use of the resources available and my peers’ input and professor I should do well. Most likely I will be asking many questions at first until I become familiar with it.

Kaitlyn Halmi - Hello everyone,

My name is Kaitlyn and I am 28 years old. I have been married to my husband for 8 years and together we have two amazing children. My husband is a soldier in the Army which means we move a lot. We are still settling into our new home at Fort Rucker in Alabama as we just arrived not even a month ago. While I have been lucky enough to take some time off of work to pursue my degree here at SNHU, I have worked in many different industries and have held many different types of positions throughout my career. My combined experiences in each workplace have pushed me to pursue this degree and excite me for the future of my career. In each of my positions, I have held administrative duties in some capacity. I have dealt with sales, inventory, customer relations, marketing, and data entry. Throughout my studies here at SNHU, I have grown very fond of human resources and hope to pursue that later as I work towards a master’s degree next year.

The outcomes for this course are very important for me, as is this class. Each outcome is directly applicable to any career path I chose to follow, and they can each be applied to any industry that I chose to stick to. My ultimate goal that stemmed from my childhood has been to be a small business owner. While the nature of the business has changed as I have grown and matured, I believe that this class will allow me to see really how well I can do in the business world. I have enjoyed my classes throughout my course of studies here at SNHU, but this class allows me to bring everything I’ve learned together in order to see how well I really understood everything and can apply it to a business setting. Personally, the only outcome I feel that I can confidently apply in my career at this point is the one that refers to communication skills and etiquette. Other than that, I am very excited to learn alongside you all and feel confident in the other course outcomes.

I feel that the course itself is a bit intimidating both because of the hands-off approach by our professor and the simulation in general. I haven’t had a class such as this before, so I am eager to learn throughout the next few weeks. I think that the first week or two will be vital to all of us as we navigate through Capsim and begin to make decisions. In all of my classes, I monitor the general questions discussion just in case some classmates are looking for help in the same way I am. I think this is one of the best ways that we can all help each other out throughout the week as we work through decisions in Capsim. It also looks like we will have a lot to discuss in normal weekly discussion as we figure out the outcomes of our decisions and learn how to improve. I think this communication with each other is going to go a long way in ensuring we all get as much as possible out of the course.
