Causal inference is the approach of making a judgment about a causal relationship founded on the circumstances of the manifestation of an effect. It investigates the feedback of the outcome variable when the source is altered. The fundamental problem of causal inference is that the source and the outcome may have resulted by coincidence instead of by planning.
