Non-verbal communication increases teacher's effectiveness in the classroom because not all students stand in equal footing in terms of ability to comprehend. Students learn differently and each student has different learning pace. Some students understand verbal communication easily, other students don't. Some students prefer non-verbal communication like body movements, hand signals, hand gestures, facial reactions, etc. in order to completely understand an idea, a problem or a concept. Sometimes words are not just enough to get a full picture of a lesson. By using non-verbal communication, the teacher can be more effective because he/she is catering to the both types of students, those who prefer verbal communication and those who prefer non-verbal communication. More importantly, non-verbal communication is also a big help for those students who have a difficulty in hearing or were born deaf.
