The article argues that Eco-cities exist as a result of new initiatives by the World Bank to assist cities of emerging countries to achieve socially, ecologically, and economically sustainable development. It also indicates that with the increasingly severe climatic events such as flooding, wildland fires, and other devastating implications, there is a need to adopt ecological and sustainable design principles for growth and development in the future. It uses Egypt as an example because of the severe threats the country is facing. Egypt has reduced access to natural resources, and the increasing size of the population is also a significant challenge in its quest to create a self-sustaining ecosystem. However, until now, there are no clear regulations for eco-city construction and design. For this reason, this article purposes to identify hidden potential by exploring successful private programs for current eco-communities in the country. The article used an analytical methodology in tackling various aspects such as permaculture, renewable energy, eco-sanitation, solid waste management, green transportation, vernacular architecture, and green economy. The research is significant since through the evaluation of such concepts, it is possible for architectural designers to create the space required to establish a self-sustaining ecosystem. The researchers concluded the article by stating strategies and recommendations to achieve sustainable architecture concerning socially enriched and resilient zero-carbon cities.

For this reason, it is not straightforward to deny the role of architecture in society and the impact it has on the way people view and define themselves. For instance, during the ancient period, people used architecture as a form of language to express their emotions, feelings, and thoughts. Whether people relied on stones, rocks or earth in communicating, it is a language they believed in because they had created it. In the contemporary era, architecture is controlled by pluralism which makes it challenging for individuals to connect themselves with the space they are in when the real deal is in the background. As a result, the article explores the concept of sustainability by examining different cases of self-building from traditional architecture such as Ksur and Kasbah in Morocco and continues by examining the shantytowns in the modern era. For this reason, the article purposes to explore the potentiality and possibility of an architecture governed by the society. It also tries to raise concerns on availability of chances to use open source technology as a design instrument in establishing a space which is useful in realizing a self-sustaining ecosystem within architectural design.

Through analysis and research of this site, the article includes and responds to essential programmatic elements required to improve self-sustainability of architecture in the area. For this reason, the article focuses on describing the evaluation and design of four in-the-wild research cases that deal with contextual challenges associated with architecture media. It utilizes a research-oriented methodology to combine participatory and collaborative techniques with those from AI interaction. The case studies showcase the importance of media architecture in becoming a friendly tool in the environment. In other words, the findings revealed that sustainable architecture enables multiple stakeholders to work together in the design process which will guarantee the creation of a self-sustaining ecosystem. It also allows the incorporation of design attributes that enhance engagement. The article also concludes by indicating that sustainable architecture is crucial in communicating information rooted in the local identity. It ensures that self-sustainability in the ecosystem is achieved by optimizing the collaboration and integration of architecture within an environment.
