Journal Entry #1
Select 1-5 writers or public personalities who share your views in relation to your Semester Topic. Discuss their "rhetorical styles." (These "styles" are determined by the rhetorical strategies that they choose and rely upon when making their arguments.)
Each Journal should be two handwritten pages, single-spaced, using 8.5x11 college-ruled paper.
One of the speakers who have spoken against climate change is Tucker Carlson. According to Tucker Carlson, human beings are becoming hypocritical while addressing the challenge of the climate change campaign. Most people argue that Dems and fires have caused climate change. However, Tucker argues that is the wrong narrative. According to him, the recent climate changes have been caused by human beings’ mistakes. Currently, people are destroying the government by buying vehicles that destroy the environment. Human beings are also throwing plastics into the environment, which has led to environmental degradation. As a person who believes in environmental conservation, I like Tucker's method of delivering information. Tucker begins by questioning a narrative that has been spreading. It is believed that climate change has been causing these fires (Graziosi, 2020). However, none of the people who stated these arguments has been able to support this argument. While delivering his message, he also asks other rhetorical questions such as how climate change did that? While using rhetorical questions, the author can deliver his message. Rhetorical questions help rationally deliver messages. They also help one understand the differences. Just like the author does, one can easily compare between two issues that are affecting society.
Rachel Madow also uses rhetorical questions while delivering her speech. While narrating her story, she consumes a lot of time trying to present evidence and tell a different narrative. It is difficult for the author to connect the stories at first. The reader is left with some rhetorical questions, such as what the author is discussing. It takes close to five minutes for the reader to understand the thesis statement. As a speaker, there are some things I would have done differently. The author should have stated her thesis statement at the beginning. In the video, one only learns about what the author is talking about after the fifth minute. It is easier for an individual to lose interest in what the speaker is saying since the thesis statement is unclear. The author should also use literature styles such as rhetoric questions. Rhetorical questions would help persuade and influence the audience.
