Question 1: Hall of Famers
Integration plays a significant role in the development of logistics management. The businesses are working to integrate their supply chain management and introduce sustainable supply chain management to put a positive influence on the customers (Chaudhari et al., 2018). Effective logistics management also helps the companies to become competitive in the market. There are various companies that use an integrated logistics strategy and support, and they use it as important elements as their overall business strategy. The companies use an integrated supply chain management and logistics management of their business (McKinnon, 2017). The companies are now using advanced technologies to improve their supply chain management and logistics management. Companies should use a holistic approach for the sustainable supply chain management. For this study, the Hall of Famers includes the companies that are using an integrated approach for their supply chain and logistics operations.
The first example that is added in the Hall of Famers is Amazon Company. Amazon is one of the leading companies in the world, and supply chain and logistics have played a vital role in the success of the company. The Amazon Supply chain management approach is to embrace the new or latest technology. Amazon is doing great in its supply chain by doing innovations. Jeff Bezos, who is the CEO of Amazon, and his team have found all the ways to make their supply chain and logistics one of the best supply chains and logistics (Yu et al., 2016). The evidence is the services provided by the company to its customers. Amazon offers FBA Fulfillment by Amazon features to the third-party sellers at Amazon. FBA was introduced to facilitate the sellers on Amazon and provide them some opportunities. The main components of supply chain management include warehousing, delivery, technology, and manufacturing. Amazon uses an effective warehousing strategy that ensures that products are easily accessible to the customers. The company makes sure that whenever the customers place an order, the product remains available for them. There are a plethora of delivery options offered by Amazon to its customers (Sun et al., 2020). It makes the company different from all the other companies. These options include the free option, two-day prime deliveries option, and prime now option. They use advanced technologies for the delivery of their products, such as the use of drones to deliver the products to the customers. Amazon uses a global supply chain, and it delivers to almost every country (Ivanov et al., 2017).
Another example for Hall of Famers includes McDonald's. Effective supply chain management is the key to success for McDonald's. The researchers found that integrated supply chain and logistics is the secret to the success of McDonald. The supply chain and logistics of McDonald's are some of the reasons that McDonald's has expanded all over the world. Without an effective supply chain and logistics management, it is impossible to open thousands of franchises all over the globe. The only US has more than 10,000 franchises of McDonald's. McDonald's has been using a vertical integration supply chain that helps the company to keep the costs down and profits up (Kelso, 2019).
Question 2: Hall of Shamers
The Hall of Shamers includes the companies that use an ineffective supply chain and logistics. These companies do not utilize the resources to make their supply chain and logistics more effective. These companies fail to execute the integration of supply chain and logistics. The first example of Hall of Shamers include ASOS, ASOS is a British company, and is an online fashion and cosmetics retailer. ASOS sells over 850 brands of fashion and cosmetics, and they faced a huge challenge in their supply chain and logistics due to the use of ineffective supply chain and logistics management. ASOS faced issues in supply chain and logistics due to the glitches faced by the company in the warehouse technology. These glitches in the warehouse tech of ASOS caused the company to face a $25 million loss. The company uses automated warehouse management and warehouse control system. But due to the ineffective execution of integrated supply chain and logistics strategy, the company had to face a huge loss. The problems in its warehouse technology have badly affected the company; the company faced a huge loss along with the impact on its reputation or image. The company faced issues with stock availability, and it was unable to deliver the products on time to the customers. All these issues show that ASOS does not use an integrated supply chain and logistics management. Because if the company is using such strategies, then there are very few chances of occurrence of these events. Now, the company is trying to improve its supply chain and logistics management (Lauchlan, 2019).
Another company that can be included as an example in Hall of Shamers is the HD Supply Company. HD Supply is an industrial distributor in North America. The company follows supply chain management and logistics that are considered to be not efficient. The reason behind the inefficiency of the supply chain and logistics management is that this company has to face issues in warehouse management. There were delays in the order fulfillment, and the automation of its warehouse failed. The company faced issues due to the digitization issues and the absence of clarity. The processes used by the company were not updated (Cosgrove, 2020).
Question 3: Difference between Hall of Famers and Hall of Shamers
There are significant differences between the hall of famers and the hall of shamers. The companies that are included in Hall of Famers are those that follow an effective supply chain and logistics management. These companies use an integrated approach in their supply chain and logistics management, and it helps to improve their business, revenue, and sales. In comparison, the companies included in the hall of shamers are those that do not follow an effective approach for supply chain and logistics. These companies do not use an integrated approach for their supply chain and logistics.
The companies in the hall of famers use advanced technology without and invest in its maintenance and development. Therefore, these companies do not face any issues of glitches in the technology and system. The supply chain has moved towards automation, and therefore, all the companies are using automated warehouse management; some companies are doing great, such as Amazon Company (Sun et al., 2020). On the other hand, the companies that are part of the hall of shamers are unable to perform as well as Amazon Company, and due to their ineffective approaches and management, the company faces issues in its automated systems such as ASOS and HD supply faced issues in an automated warehouse (Cosgrove, 2020).
The companies in the hall of famers use supply chain drivers; production, inventory, location, transportation, and information. These companies want their supply chain drivers to be responsive or efficient. These companies use a holistic approach for sustainable supply chain management. The hall of shamers includes the companies that follow poor management of the supply chain. These companies are facing issues such as high inventory costs, poor customer services, late delivery timings, poor quality of product, poor planning capabilities, and an increased cost that is associated with the tracking and management of their supply chain. These companies do not utilize the resources to make their supply chain and logistics more effective. These companies fail to execute the integration of supply chain and logistics.
