ASSIGNMENT TASK:

 

Choose ONE Nation State from ONE of the following Economic Blocs: ECOWAS or EAC, and answer the following tasks: 

 

a) Critically review the competitiveness of your chosen Economic Bloc and Nation State within the wider Aviation context.

 

b) Critically examine one of the following significant macro forces*, in relation to your chosen Nation State:

1. 1. Skill Development
   2. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)
   3. Aviation Alliances
   4. Economic Alliances

c) With reference to the force identified in b), examine whether this force has/can contribute positively to the growth of the chosen Nation State's aviation sector and its overall competitiveness. 

 

* A macro-force is a specific event / activity that has a significant impact upon a country/provider/sector.

 

d) Introduce your essay, what key elements should the reader expect to see and what context is the essay set within.

MARKING CRITERIA:

The following is an indicative marking criteria for your assignment:

Structure/clarity of communication/flow of discussion will account for 10%;

Task (a) Review of the current context and competitiveness of selected Economic Bloc and Nation State within the wider aviation context; assess the most significant political and/or social economic factors that have shaped the current situation over the last 4 years. The articulation/analysis/synthesis of this discussion, along with supporting evidence, will equate to 30%;

Task (b) Examination of one specified significant macro force; assess the scope and potential growth of   this   force   within   the   context   of   both   the   economic   block   and   Nation   State.   The articulation/analysis/synthesis of this discussion, along with supporting evidence, will equate to 20%;

Task  (c)  An  examination  of  whether  this  chosen  specified  macro  force  has  /can  contribute  to  the growth and overall competitiveness of the chosen Nation States aviation sector; assess the positive impact  that  this  factor  has  and  is  predicted  to  have  on  the  Nation  State  in  the  next  4  years.  The articulation/analysis/synthesis of this discussion, along with supporting evidence, will equate to 20%;

Task (d) The introduction to your essay. This important section frames your work. You should reflect upon what you have discussed in the previous Tasks and offer the reader an insight into what to expect within your essay. This will equate to 10%;

References – quality, range and extensiveness of references (at least 25 references across different sources are expected) – references should also include datasets (indexes, statistics, industry reports etc).  The  currency  of  the  data  (how  recent  is  the  data)  and  the  triangulation  of  references  (cross-referencing data to add further justification to points) are critical. Marks for references will also be embedded  with  the  sections  above,  but  the  extent,  presentation,  currency  and  quality  of  the references will account for 10%.
