Description of the Research

The research topic is, ‘The Rise Of Boot camp VS Traditional Educational Institute: Which One Is More Desirable by Potential Students?’ The digital age and the advancement of technology globally have brought about unprecedented changes in diverse sectors of the world. As the sector that produces different professionals, the educational sector demands a lot of changes and growth in the administration of education. There is the general fear that the traditional educational offerings will not generate graduates with the skills required to fulfill the needs of the changing technology. One of how the educational sector is attempting to phase out and, in some cases, supplement traditional educational institutes is through the introduction and incorporation of boot camps. The study, therefore, seeks to identify which one is more desirable for potential students. After the cover page, the first section of the research, the dedication, acknowledgment, and table of contents will be abstract, which will summarize the entire dissertation, including the results from the data analysis. Notably, the researcher will write the abstract as the last part to ensure that all the essential data is indicated in this section. The introduction will then follow.

The introduction section of this dissertation will give a background of the study to shed light on the reasons and the timeliness of addressing this problem in the education sector. It will also focus on the definition of essential concepts that will be referenced throughout the study. The first important concept will be that of boot camps. These are short-term but intense training sessions designed to prepare students for practical reality in different fields (Berridge et al., 2020). The other concept definitions will revolve around traditional educational institutions, the modern-day learner, and their characteristics. The rationale for having these concepts as part of the introduction is to shed light on boot camps and traditional education and the characteristics of modern-day learners so that the audience for the research can begin to understand the importance of the research topic. These concept explorations will then be followed by the purpose of the study or the problem statement, which is to enlighten the modern-day learner's preferred mode of education. Notably, the introduction section of the study will give the audience leeway to understanding the contents and the relevance of the study.

The second chapter will review existing literature on the subject. It will begin with the theoretical perspectives that are related to the current study. The study will focus on the functionalist theory of education, the constructivist and the connectivism theories of education (Sever, 2012; Mattar, 2018; AlDahdouh et al., 2015). The functionalist theory of education focuses on how education serves the needs of society by developing skills, encouraging social cohesion, and sorting students. The constructivist theory of education posits that people will construct knowledge based on the experiences of the world and the reflections of the same. The connectivism theory revolves around the connection of thoughts, theories, and ideas in a helpful manner. The research will explore all these theories and relate them to the modern-day learner. The relationships between the tenets of the theory and the modern-day learner will then inform the possibility or the likelihood of this learner to prefer boot camps or the traditional educational institution or a combination of both.

The empirical review will focus on various scholarly articles by researchers on boot camps and traditional educational institutions. The article will revolve around those that give the effects of boot camps in multiple fields. The reviewed literature that focuses on this area will inform how boot camps are changing the educational landscape (Price & Dunagan, 2019; Arbeit et al., 2019; Bonnie, 2019). The literature reviewed will also shed light on the various ways in which nontraditional education institutes are changing and the limitations of the nontraditional institute for the modern-day learner (Ali, 2020; Porter et al., 2014). It is important to note that literature also counters the effects of the boot camps (Feldon et al., 2017). Notably, most scholarly articles relate boot camps with the field of technology (Emin & Vaalandi., 2020; Blackmore et al., 2014; Joshi, 2019; Burke & Bailey, 2019).

Chapter three of the dissertation will cover the research methodology that the study will adopt. The study will focus primarily on collecting numerical data relating to the topic of study, which makes it a quantitative study. More specifically, it will adopt a descriptive research design. This chapter will define the sample population and the methods that will be used in the collection of data to study the topic. The sample population will be the modern-day learners where for this study will include students who have finished high school and are headed to higher educational institutions. The study will adopt a random sampling technique to pick the participants of the study within the state. There will be the administration of questionnaires to the research respondents for the answers. The questionnaires will contain both open-ended and closed-ended questions to determine the preferences of the students. The rationale for selecting questionnaires as the object for collecting data is due to the anonymity aspect. The students will not feel pressured and will be able to express themselves properly on their preferences. This will then translate to better and more accurate results for the study. The objectives will then determine the data analysis strategies. The analysis of demographic data will be through descriptive statistics. However, the other objectives will use linear regression analysis as the method for analyzing the data.

Chapter 4 will provide a data analysis of the collected data. It will begin with data on the response rates of the study to identify if they were sufficient for a study of this scale. There will then be a discussion of the results to determine the preference for the modern-day learners between traditional educational institutes and boot camps. The last chapter will provide a summary of the study, a discussion of the results, areas for further research, and the study's limitations. Overall, the research aims to contribute to the education sector by informing researchers, educators, and policymakers on the best strategies to make the necessary changes for the world's changing needs.
