Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action. In its exemplary form, it is based on universal intellectual values that transcend subject matter divisions: clarity, accuracy, precision, consistency, relevance, sound evidence, good reasons, depth, breadth, and fairnes. It entails the examination of those structures or elements of thought implicit in all reasoning: purpose, problem, or question-at-issue; assumptions; concepts; empirical grounding; reasoning leading to conclusions; implications and consequences; objections from alternative viewpoints; and frame of reference. Critical thinking — in being responsive to variable subject matter, issues, and purposes — is incorporated in a family of interwoven modes of thinking, among them: scientific thinking, mathematical thinking, historical thinking, anthropological thinking, economic thinking, moral thinking, and philosophical thinking.

In the Yellow Wallpaper, the narrator's husband believes she will get better with rest and by not worrying about anything when in the real sense the depression worsens, while in this week's article, the teaching of critical thinking skills is believed to be more crucial in assisting people in dealing with stress where one uses the logical application of skills in problem-solving contexts. The Yellow Wallpaper mainly focuses on mental health, while this week's article focuses on everyone's mental health regardless of their sex. The Yellow Wallpaper is feministic since it was written during times which women's rights were undermined. The second article was written in the modern world, therefore it is equal and does not undermine anyone. The Yellow Wallpaper uses ordinary thinking, which is not effective as it overlooks the important issues (Watson, & Moreton, 2020), while the second article emphasizes the use of critical thinking to solve problems and deal with stress. In the Yellow Wallpaper, the person undergoing a problem does not have the freedom to choose the method for coping with the stress, while in the other article, one has the freedom to choose the method best suited for them to deal with their problems.

Both the articles emphasize the various ways of dealing with stress and solving day-to-day problems. Both articles focus on various methods of making life simple and enjoyable for everyone. Both articles confirm the existence of depression in society, and many people are silently suffering from the condition. Both articles confirm that poor methods of dealing with depression and stress can lead to adverse psychologic defects like depression.
