English Question
The most important concept that I have learned in this class is the writing process and how to put it all together. Writing process is a multifaceted combination of skills that is best understood through different process. This process is made up of several steps that follow each other systematically to produce a final piece of writing. I have realized that by following the writing process, it is easy to successfully write. By breaking it down into a step-by-step process, the mystery of writing is alleviated and the writer’s block is eliminated. Most importantly, I discovered the advantages of constructive response to my writing, which can help me to progressively master and enjoy writing. I also realized that a good academic writing needs prior preparation, drafting and review. Writing and putting it all together involves fundamental writing steps that I needed to understand so that I could improve my writing process. These five steps include prewriting, drafting, revising, editing and publishing.
Prewriting is the planning part where students brainstorm, research, gather and put down ideas, most by use of diagrams to map out their thoughts. The writer should consider their target audience and the purpose of their writing at this point. Drafting is the second phase where students make their first composition by putting down all their ideas in an organized manner to deliver a certain idea or make an argument. The target audience and the purpose are finalized at this point. The third step is revising. Here, a student is supposed to evaluate, adjust and restructure their work by removing, adding or readjusting the content to bring out the tone and style of the content for the target audience. The main aim of the writer at this point is to improve the draft. The next step is editing, where the writer proofreads and removes the errors in grammar and mechanics, and edit to change style and clarity. Finally, the writer publishes the work for the audience to see.
I will use what I learned here to break down my tasks into different manageable tasks, hence reducing the anxiety and struggle in writing. This will allow me to produce quality content. The writing process will also help me to identify my real audience and take time to develop drafts based on the target audience. Focusing on every step separately will help me to improve the quality of my personal, academic and professional writing in the future.
Good grammar, fact-checking, competent editing and good sentence structure and construction will help me in my professional world to impress my audience, build network and work my way to the top. Good writing skill will also help me to carry out responsible and competent research. I will keep on practicing and experimenting with new formats and sentence structures so that I can continue improving my writing as I navigate my academic career. I will also expose my work to different people for feedback so that they can highlight typos and grammatical issues that I might have overlooked.
