Human Resource Speech

When conducting this task, achieving and evaluating an effective presentation proved to be relatively challenging due to certain inherent variables. I learnt that high-quality presentations require ample time spent on preparation. Specifically, long preparatory time is needed when deciding on the expectations and structure of the speech for an audience (Röbl et., 2013). Conceptualization, production, revision and rehearsal is also part of the preparatory stage.  Constant utterance would seemingly lead to a more thoughtful and powerful presentation. Once settled on a topic, the presenter should decide on several specific (at least three) key messages they would like for the audience to grasp before leaving and then developing a learning story that incorporates the messages. It is essential to do extensive research on the topic to understand it fully; different learning resources give more and deeper insights that births questions on the issue. Also, extensive research helps in deciding learning objectives that are appropriate for the targeted audience. Not to forget, the targeted audience should play a significant role while selecting the purposes, and they can be adjusted appropriately. Therefore, knowing the message to be conveyed and the audience is highly recommended. Focusing the topic and objective towards a specific audience brings about idea organization in a presentation by building a presentation that is well structured and contains a compelling message (Kaltenbach & Soetikno, 2016).

I also learnt that during preparation before a presentation, I need to take specific measures for the provision of sustainable energy that enhances one’s performance, memory and also responsiveness; certain measures may include getting sufficient sleep before the presentation, exercising, water hydration, limiting simple sugars and caffeine intake and taking a balanced diet among others. Most importantly, understanding the content of the presentation was found to be of prime importance. In addition, I found that practicing the presentation is the tipping point for an intelligent presenter. Actively practicing by going through the presentation out loud and physically standing up is much more effective. Also, visualizing one’s gestures and hearing one’s voice is worthwhile preparation process that helps in compelling the time of a presentation. Ultimately, practicing the presentation in a similar environment setting enhances the presenter’s confidence.

Variance.

I learnt that diversifying the presentation by using different materials makes a presentation more memorable. Diversification can be done by varying the visuals, gestures, evidence and voice and by this one engages the audience’s attention. Some of the indicative signs that an audience might be drawn away include fidgeting, yawning, loss of eye contact or looking down at their phones. Therefore, I must actively lookout for any of these signs and apply the skills learnt to grab my listeners attention. More importantly, I found that using either quantitative or qualitative evidence alone is less compelling than using both. Consequently, I should provide tables, data and also supplement it with a case story to supplement the offered scientific evidence. During the speech, I need to be emphatic while emphasizing a point. In addition to, when I am highlighting the message, I need to use expressions and, during speech-giving, vary tone, volume and frequency (Kaltenbach & Soetikno, 2016).

Relevance

I learned that I need to scale down and connect the data to the audience from the speech. To make the presentation impactful, put ratios, numbers and percentages in context. Also, I should use familiar analogies to connect and relate the presentation materials to the audience (Kaltenbach & Soetikno, 2016). Generally, it is essential that the speech is listener-friendly, and the use of ambiguous concepts or foreign vocabulary often does more harm than good.

Emotion

While mastering the talk is imperative, a presentation that has been recited lacks responsiveness and life. One should not read word for word from speech slides and written notes in complete sentences earlier written. In the speech slides, the key concepts should be written using only salient bullet points. Presenters that are memorable express and speak naturally and enrich their story using slides and side notes. Also, pause to allow time for the audience to observe and absorb the material and during point reinforcement (Kaltenbach & Soetikno, 2016).

Conclusion

In conclusion, to give an effective oral presentation, I ought to have an intuitive skill that requires practice and experience to perfect. I have learned that I should be visual, clear, and focused on the content while providing relevance, variance, and emotion while presenting. I need to take ample time for preparation to make the presentation memorable. In addition, the presentation should be well structured for one to maximize delivery, the main ideas should be delivered, and the intended outcome of the presenter communicate to the audience. The main ideas and the benefits of the presentation should occasionally be reiterated.
