GETTING STARTED

  • Open the file NP_AC19_EOM8-2_FirstLastName_1.accdb, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as NP_AC19_EOM8-2_FirstLastName_2.accdb by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .accdb file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • To complete this SAM Project, you will also need to download and save the following data files from the SAM website onto your computer:
    • Support_AC19_EOM8-2_Employees.csv
    • Support_AC19_EOM8-2_InsuranceCompanies.csv
    • Support_AC19_EOM8-2_MedDescription.xml
    • Support_AC19_EOM8-2_MedDescription.xsd
  • Open the _GradingInfoTable table and ensure that your first and last name is displayed as the first record in the table. If the table does not contain your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
  • PROJECT STEPS
  1. Cardiac Rehab Associates is a company that helps people rehabilitate their health and strength after an illness or an accident. You work as a research analyst to maintain records and to analyze the success of various activities and programs. At Cardiac Rehab Associates, you are developing an Access database application to help manage this information. In this project, you will improve the existing database by creating charts and working with database application parts. You will also import and export data from an Access database.

    Open the ClientEntry form in Design View and use the Chart Wizard to add a chart to the right side of the Detail section. Base the chart on the Clients table. Use the StrengthScore, FlexibilityScore, and CognitiveScore fields on the chart. Create a Column Chart. Use the StrengthScore, FlexibilityScore, and CognitiveScore fields in the Data area, but do not sum them. Use the ClientID field to link the form record to the chart. Use Client Scores for the chart title, and do not display a legend. Resize the chart to stretch to be as tall as the Detail section. Save and display the ClientEntry form in Form View as shown in Figure 1, and then close it.

  1. Open the ClientScores report in Design View, then use the Chart Wizard to add a chart to the left side of the Report Footer section. Base the chart on the Clients table. Use the StrengthScore, FlexibilityScore, CognitiveScore, and Gender fields on the chart. Create a Bar Chart. Use the StrengthScore, FlexibilityScore, and CognitiveScore fields in the Data area, and summarize each field by averaging each field. Use the Gender field in the Axis area. Do not link the report and chart fields. Use Average Score by Gender for the chart title and display a legend. Resize the width of the chart to be 6" wide. Display the report in Print Preview and navigate to the last page of the report, a portion of which is shown in Figure 2. Save and close the ClientScores report.

  1. Use Application Parts to create a Tasks table with forms. The Tasks table should not have a relationship to any other table in the database.
  2. Use Application Parts to create a Comments table. One record in the Clients table may be linked to many records in the Comments table. Use the ClientID field in the Clients table, do not sort the field, name the lookup column ClientID, and do not allow multiple values.
  3. Import the Support_AC19_EOM8-2_Employees.csv file located in the default folder. The file is in a comma-delimited format. The first row contains field names. Do not modify the fields, let Access add the primary key field, and use Employees as the new table name. Do not save the import steps. Open the Employees table in Datasheet View, which should have 11 records. Close the Employees table.
  4. Import the Support_AC19_EOM8-2_InsuranceCompanies.csv file located in the default folder and append the records into the existing InsuranceCompanies table. The data is in a comma-delimited format. The first row does not contain field names. Do not save the import steps. Open the InsuranceCompanies table in Datasheet View, which should now have 17 records. Close the InsuranceCompanies table.
  5. Import the Support_AC19_EOM8-2_MedDescription.xml file located in the default folder as a new Access table. (Hint: The Support_AC19_EOM8-2_MedDescription.xsd file needs to be in the same folder as the XML file for the import to be successful.). Import both the structure and the data. Do not save the import steps.
  6. Export the InsuranceCompanies table as an HTML document to the default folder using the default file name. Do not include formatting and layout. Save the export steps with the name Export-InsuranceCompanies to HTML but do not add a Description.
  7. Export the HealthProgramListing report as an HTML document to the default folder using the default file name. Do not open the file after the export is complete, do not use a template, and use default encoding. Save the export steps with the name Export-HealthProgramListing to HTML but do not add a Description.
  8. Export the Clients table as an XML file to the default folder using the default file name. Include the XML (data) and XSD (schema) files. Save the export steps with the name Export-Clients to XML but do not add a Description.

Save and close any open objects in your database. Compact and repair your database, close it, and then exit Access. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
