A pressure vessel of the boiler consists of cylindrical shell of 1.2 m inner diameter is subjected to internal steam pressure of 2 MPa. Design a suitable longitudinal riveted butt joint which can be used to make the shell. Permissible stresses for rivet and shell in tension, shear and compression are 80, 60 and 120 N/mm2 respectively. Design the joint completely and support with the suitable diagrams.
