Alliances were the main reason which caused the emergence and elevated the first World War into becoming bigger. This is because, without the presence of the alliances, the war could have been fought between Serbia and Austria-Hungary as other countries such as Germany would not have been involved as well as Russia. However, due to the presence of alliances, each country specifically, Russian and Germany come to help their allies which led to the first world war.

Alliances were the main reason which caused the emergence and elevated the first World War into becoming bigger. This is because, without the presence of the alliances, the war could have been fought between Serbia and Austria-Hungary as other countries such as Germany would not have been involved as well as Russia. However, due to the presence of alliances, each country specifically, Russian and Germany come to help their allies which led to the first world war. The formation of alliances were in order to protect themselves as well as their allies from threats. The fact that countries had distrust with each other, they signed treaties which pledged to defend one another which led to the entrance of other countries in the Serbian and Austria-Hungary war which without the alliances there could not have been involved. Additionally, the alliances were formed in the effort to promote peace through a combination of power ensuring that no one would attack each other. This paved way for the first world war with the Russian attacking Serbia which led to the Germans declaring war on Russia leading to the WWI. 

Among the consequences of the alliance's with respect to the WWI, it gave some of the European nations protection since the alliances prevented stronger and larger nations from waging war on weaker and smaller states. It also led to the involvement of other countries such as Germany and Russian in war which they could not have participated if the alliances did not exist.
