Directions Use one or more bivariate tests and one or more multivariate linear regressions to answer a research question. The report will contain the following sections: 1. Introduction 2. Appendix: Stata do-file (submitted separately via Wattle) Introduction • What is the general purpose of the research? • What is already known about the topic (any conflicting research, unresolved questions)? • What questions will this study examine? Background and literature review • What have other researchers found on your topic? • Any debates or conflicting studies? • Any gaps in the research or questions that remain unanswered? You do not need to go overboard with the literature review as this is a fairly short research paper. Around 10 or so relevant articles is sufficient. Research questions • What is your broad research question that you want to answer? • What are your specific hypotheses? research report 2 Data • What data are you using to answer your research question? • How was the sampling done, how were the interviews conducted, how many respondents are in the sample • Are you using all respondents or only analysing a sub-section. • Are you not including some respondents because of missing data (if yes- how many are excluded and why) • What variables are you using? Are there any problems with the variables or extra information you wish you had but that is not available in the data? • Was any manipulation done to create new variables? If yes- briefly describe. Method • What is the plan of analysis? • What statistical tests will be conducted? (t-test, f-test, chi-square, correlation, regression?) • What is your cut-off for rejecting or accepting the null hypothesis? (e.g., p<0.05) Results • Include some descriptive statistics about your sample • Present the results of your analysis either in table or graph format (do not just copy and paste the results from the Stata output). • Outline the facts about your results- statistically significant or not? Discussion • Discuss the results in light of your original research question and the literature review. • Do your results contradict previous findings, or are they in line with previous findings? • Are there any limitations to your analysis? • What additional analysis could be done in the future to further answer the research question? This will be submitted separately via Wattle Drop Box. Be sure to only include the analysis you’re presenting, and comment your code so I can easily follow what you’re doing. Also be sure it is formatted for easy reading.
