1)In, The Persistence of Gender Inequality in Employment Settings, sociologist Cecelia Ridgeway asks why women have not been able to move into the highest ranks of professional management. She finds that preconceived status expectations held by both men and women are in part to blame. This then continues to maintain the status quo. Please review her list of status beliefs and make a list of other categories of status beliefs based on other aspects of self, ie race, class, sexual orientation etc. Discuss how her theory might be used to explain persistent discrimination for these other aspects of self.

Through this process the authors maintain that they also gain some emotional capital which benefits them beyond the workplace. Describe this and also explain why some emotional labor performances seem more genuine than others.
