TASK A

  1. Modern or contemporary dancing is more expressive than most dances such as folk dance, ballet, tap or ballroom. This is because there are no set steps, arm gestures , or footwork involved with contemporary dance. Often, there is no right or wrong way to do a step. A modern dancer can fully go with the music and express himself/herself without having to think about having the right form or footwork.
  2. Dancing modern or contemporary dances has a direct effect on your physique. Contemporary dancers have high-stamina, flexibility, toned bodies due to the nature of the moves they regularly do. They are also fast-learners and mentally sharp because of all the routines they have to learn in a season or show.
  3. I think being vulnerable is the main thing that would discourage me from dancing modern or contemporary dances. Unlike ballet or ballroom dance, where dances are created from a set steps or variations, modern dance involves feeling the music, and a wider variety of movements. With other dances, I can just learn a dance, memorize, and apply good technique. With modern dance, all of those are thrown out the window and I instead have to dig deep within me to fully grasp the dance and engage with my audience.

TASK B

  1. The Meriam-Webster dictionary defines 'sport' as a physical activity engaged in for pleasure. Cheerleading is considered a sport as it also involves physical activity, high-level tumbling, and in the case of All Star Cheer, highly competitive in nature.
  2. Many schools have cheer teams for the sole purpose of cheering on other sporting events by the bleachers. Such cheer teams do not compete against other cheer teams. It should also be noted that many are mislead to think that not Cheerleading is not a sport as it appears closer to dance than football or basketball.
  3. Like all other sports, Cheerleading also requires grit, perseverance, hard work, motivation, and a whole lot of hours spent practicing. A cheerleader has to have the mental capability and strength to memorize multiple routines and overcome the fear of doing stunts. Cheerleading is both an athletic and artistic sport which is why Cheerleaders have to strike a balance between working on their strength and their dance elements.
