Evaluate the following statement:
"Google holds a dominant position in the search engine market. Even though they are a near-monopoly, they should not be regulated by the government because they give their search engine services away for free."
According to my own evaluation, the given statement doesn't show the correct picture for Google as Google is a profit-maximizing private firm, not a non-profit firm that has certain goals and targets. Besides this, giving wonderful service free of cost to consumers doesn't imply that they are not earning money rather it is an indicator of a large amount of indirect income. Google, itself shows different ads either related or non-related to the searched items by users which helps them to make money. They are also paid by the third party when they browse certain materials.
Thus, it can be stated that even if Google is offering first-hand free service for a good cause then the government must not monitor it as they didn't aim to monopolize the market rather be involved in improving the welfare of the society.
