Design your own conceptual model for communication. What variables would you include in your model? How can your communication model help in effective communication?
Answer:
This is my own conceptual model for communication (the picture is on the explanation box). While this model looked a lot like any other communication model, I made this model a combination of many principles to help in effective communication.
The first box, the 'message' is the formulated idea by the sender, it may be a result of what's happening around the sender or can be plain imagination and personal idea. Next, the 'sender' who owns the message, and who is aiming to convey the message to the receiver. The third box is the 'channel' which is the medium where the message may flow or be passed through, under the channel box are the 'barriers', I believe that there is no communication without a barrier, thus, including these in the model, we can never separate communication with barriers. For the fourth box, the 'receiver' is the destination of the message. Next to the receiver is the 'feedback' coming from the receiver. I connected the feedback to barriers, too, as I know that there are barriers that have an impact on the accumulation of the feedback. Lastly, the feedback after passing through some barriers will be sent back to the sender.
This communication model will definitely help in effective communication as we are not bypassing or excluding factors that might affect communication. Considering these factors, I believe will enhance the flow of good communication.
