ENHANCING A PRESENTATION WITH VISUAL ELEMENTS
GETTING STARTED
Open the file SC_PPT16_2b_FirstLastName_1.pptx, available for download from the SAM website.
Save the file as SC_PPT16_2b_FirstLastName_2.pptx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
If you do not see the .pptx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically. To complete this Project,
you will also need to download and save the following support files from the SAM website: Support_SC_PPT16_2b_Finishcut.jp Support_SC_PPT16_2b_Bottles.jp
With the file SC_PPT16_2b_FirstLastName_2.pptx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.
If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
PROJECT STEPS
1. You are enhancing a presentation for Terra Lustre Jewelry, a sustainable jeweler that has adopted ethical production and hiring practices. To emphasize its unique business, on Slide 2 (no title), insert a WordArt text box as follows:
a. Use the Fill - White, Text 1, Outline - Background 1, Hard Shadow - Background 1 WordArt style.
b. Type Renewable Processes in the WordArt text box.
c. Apply the Hard Edge Bevel text effect.
d. Resize the WordArt text box so each word appears on a separate line as shown in Figure 1 on the next page.
e. Use Smart Guides to position the WordArt to the left of the bulleted list as shown in Figure 1 on the next page.
2. With Slide 2 (“Renewable Processes”) still displaying, use the Format Painter to apply the formatting from the text “Non-mined sources” to the text “Eco-friendly” and “Human-friendly”.
3. With Slide 2 still displaying, enter the following as a Slide note: Member of the Responsible Gem Council
4. On Slide 3 (“Recycled Glass Art”), replace the picture of the jewelry with the picture from the file Support_SC_PPT16_2b_Finishcut.jpg, available for download from the SAM website, to better associate the “After” picture with the “Before” picture.
5. On Slide 4 (“What Is Dichroic Glass?”), format the picture of the jewelry as follows:
a. Apply the Reflected Bevel, White picture style.
b. Apply the Perspective Below 3-D Rotation picture effect.
6. With Slide 4 still displaying, change the font of the text below the picture to Candara.
7. On Slide 5 (“Crafted from a Bottle”), format the slide background as follows:
a. Insert the file Support_SC_PPT16_2b_Bottles.jpg, available for download from the SAM website, as the slide background.
b. Change the transparency of the background picture to 10%. 8. With Slide 5 still displaying, use the Thesaurus to replace the word “Bottle” in the title with the first synonym beginning with the letter “c”.
9. To keep the presentation focused on jewelry, delete Slide 6 (“Also Made from Recycled Glass”).
10. On the new Slide 6 (“Our Story”), format the picture of the jewelry as follows:
a. Add a picture border using a ¾ pt. weight.
b. Change the color of the picture border to Brown, Accent 1 (5th column, 1st row of the Theme Colors palette).
11. With Slide 6 still displaying, copy one of the rectangle shapes and paste it on the same slide. Modify the pasted shape as follows:
a. Change the text to the following: We see the future
b. Use Smart Guides to position the “We see the future” rectangle beneath the upper-right rectangle as shown in Figure 2 below.
12. With Slide 6 still displaying, insert a shape around the jewelry picture as follows:
a. Insert a Frame shape from the Basic Shapes section.
b. Apply the Moderate Effect - Brown, Accent 1 shape style from the Theme Styles section (2nd column, 5th row of the Theme Colors palette).
c. Resize the frame shape to a height of 3.8" and a width of 5.2" as shown in Figure 3.
d. Use Smart Guides to position the frame shape as shown in Figure 3.
13. To ensure your terms are clear to readers, find each instance of the word “Remodeled” and replace it with the word Reclaimed. (Hint: Do not include the period. You should make two replacements in the presentation.)
14. Check the Spelling in the presentation to identify and correct any spelling errors. (Hint: You should find and correct at least one spelling error.)
In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the presentation, and then exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
