Introduction

Individuals in an organization face many problems as the pressure from work pushes them to their limits. This was the same observation in this company for the last ten months as it is now noticeable that most of the employees are not in a good state of mind, especially due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Main Ideas

The first value conflict that I had was between truth and loyalty. This was instigated by my close colleague at work, who resorted to doing illegal activities in the office. It was forbidden for employees to carry alcoholic drinks to the office, which would negatively impact the individuals and the company's image

The second instance where I had value conflict was as a result of the actions of the customer. There was an instance where a customer wanted to invest in a particular item which was risky.

The other virtue conflict that I had was between courage and loyalty. This scenario happened with my boss, where my loyalty in serving her was tested with a tricky occurrence that required me to be courageous and say no. she wanted me to carry out a dirty deal and then divide the profits with her.

Efficiency and dependability was the other conflict that I had in the past ten months in the office. Despite displaying great results in my activities, I was demoted to the second tier of management. As per my values, I believed I was worthy of my occupying position since I did not bother people with many management questions.  Despite my efficiency, I had to rely on orders from above to carry out an activity.

Despite getting fair results from the methods that I employed, it was worth noting that there were some factors that I would have considered before taking action. For instance, I would have listed all the solutions that might arise from the conflict.

Experience from 2020 Pandemic

Individuals in an organization face many problems as the pressure from work pushes them to their limits. This was the same observation in this company for the last ten months as it is now noticeable that most of the employees are not in a good state of mind, especially due to the covid-19 pandemic. Such an observation can be attributed to a clash in their values and the factors surrounding them. Such a conflict always harms the company's growth since most employees are not ready to cross such paths. Some occurrences happened in the office that leads to a conflict of the values in my belief.

The first value conflict that I had was between truth and loyalty. This was instigated by my close colleague at work, who resorted to doing illegal activities in the office. It was forbidden for employees to carry alcoholic drinks to the office, which would negatively impact the individuals and the company's image. My colleague explained that he was going through difficult moments in his life and needed the drinks to be safe. It was required of me to tell the management of the incident, but then this was my closest colleague, and he was passing through difficult moments in his life.  I was torn between acting right for the company or supporting my colleague during these challenging moments. In light of such a difficult decision, I resorted to avoiding the topic as if it never existed. In my view, this was my best scenario to deal with such conflict since reporting him would lead to job loss and more life pains while not saying it taints the picture of the company. My only viable option was to pretend that nothing was happening.

The second instance where I had value conflict was as a result of the actions of the customer. There was an instance where a customer wanted to invest in a particular item which was risky. This was in light of information that I was well aware of the risks involved, and there were high chances of her running into losses. Despite that, I had the company's obligation to agree with the customer's demands no matter how absurd they are. If I happened to persuade her to discard the investment, our company will run at a loss, while in the same case, if I advise her to proceed with the investment, I would feel guilty for the loss she is going to make. Given the technicality of this occurrence, I resorted to a compromising method to solve this conflict. For instance, I had to look for a common ground that my consciousness would not become haunted. In this situation, I could not save both parties, and thus, I had to decide which party to discard. To limit the damage that might have arisen, I advised the lady to invest partially to avoid significant losses.  I had to sacrifice an opportunity for our company to make a fortune.

The other virtue conflict that I had was between courage and loyalty. This scenario happened with my boss, where my loyalty in serving her was tested with a tricky occurrence that required me to be courageous and say no. she wanted me to carry out a dirty deal and then divide the profits with her. This was against my values as I did not condone fraudulent activities. Refusing to carry out such a command would lead to me losing the job or the title that I have, or more if I did it, I would be one to do the dirty jobs of the company. In solving this, I had to stand by my ground and refuse the task offered. Despite the consequences, acting was not worth the weight of my conscience.

To solve this conflict, I resorted to a compromising method to negotiate for better working terms without signaling my displeasure with the current arrangement. I had a proposal that even if my demotion will stand, some operations would be best if I conducted without depending on others for a way forward.

Despite getting fair results from the methods that I employed, it was worth noting that there were some factors that I would have considered before taking action. For instance, I would have listed all the solutions that might arise from the conflict. This would have helped me in making sound decisions that might not have harmed any person. The other thing that I would have done is the gathering enough information before rushing into a decision. For instance, I would have confirmed if my colleague is passing through difficult moments. Weighing up the risks involved would have been handy in making the decision. For instance, what risks would I have run into when advising the lady to invest a small amount? The most crucial factor that I would have done was deciding on the value. I would have instead gone with honesty in advising the lady or telling her the truth. Looking into the pros and cons of the action would have also been helpful. This is in the sense that I would base my decision on the pros side. The above-discussed factors would have impacted my decision-making significantly as they would have saved me unnecessary glitches with other parties.
