Adding Media and Special Effects

GETTING STARTED

  • Open the file NP_PPT19_EOM2-1_FirstLastName_1.pptx, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as NP_PPT19_EOM2-1_FirstLastName_2.pptx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .pptx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • To complete this SAM Project, you will also need to download and save the following data files from the SAM website onto your computer:
    • Support_PPT19_EOM2-1_Beach.mp4
    • Support_PPT19_EOM2-1_Coastline.jpg
  • With the file NP_PPT19_EOM2-1_FirstLastName_2.pptx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.
    • If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
  • PROJECT STEPS
  1. As the new communications officer for the municipality of Torkle Island, a charming community near Cape Cod in Massachusetts, you've created a presentation for the local chamber of commerce about tourist services and activities.

Begin by resizing the happy face shape on the title side proportionally by changing the width to 2" and allowing the height to be set automatically.
  2. On Slide 2 ("Welcome to Torkle Island"), rotate the picture of the lighthouse approximately 10 degrees to the right as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1: Rotated Picture

  1. On Slide 3 ("Accommodation Choices"), rotate the star shape exactly 90 degrees to the right. Apply the Round Bevel to the star shape (1st column, 1st row in the selection of Bevel effects). [Mac Hint – Mac users apply Circle Bevel.]

  2. On Slide 4 ("Location and Weather"), draw a sun shape. Resize the shape to exact dimensions: a width of 2" and a height of 2". Duplicate the sun shape two times so that the slide contains three sun shapes and space them apart. Apply the Intense Effect – Orange, Accent 4 shape style (6th row, 5th column) to one of the sun shapes. Use the Format Painter to copy the formatting of the sun shape to format the two duplicated sun shapes. Turn on Guides and use them to position the three shapes along the bottom of the slide as shown in Figure 2. (Hint: Move the sun shapes so they are aligned with each other and approximately evenly spaced.)

  1. On Slide 6 ("See for Yourself!"), insert a video using the file Support_PPT19_EOM2-1_Beach.mp4. Enhance the video with a video poster frame using the file Support_PPT19_EOM2-1_Coastline.jpg. Modify video playback options: change the video Start option to Automatically, change the video volume to Mute, loop the video clip, and play the video full screen.
  2. On Slide 7 ("Come to Torkle Island for a Summer"), apply the Preset 2 shape effect to the starburst shape. Change the shape outline style to a weight of 1 point. Enter the text Stay for a Lifetime! in the shape. Use adjustment handles to resize the starburst shape nonproportionally so that it appears as shown in Figure 4.

  1. Apply the Push transition in the Subtle section to every slide in the presentation. On the last slide in the presentation (Slide 7), apply the Ripple transition in the Exciting section. Apply the duration of the Ripple transition at 1.5 seconds, and play the Chime sound during the transition. Change the transition effect option to From Top-Right, and then preview the transition.
  2. Add a footer with the text Come to Torkle Island! on every slide in the presentation and include the slide number on every slide in the presentation.
