PROJECT STEPS
1.
You work in the Recreation Department for the City of Riverside. With the fast approach
of summer, you must present plans for the summer programs for children to the finance
board. You create a presentation highlighting the summer programs that will be available
for local children, including day camps, sports camps, art programs, and swimming
lessons at the municipal pool. The presentation also includes the overall budget for the
summer programs and how it will be allocated among the different program areas.
Start by going to Slide 3 ("Summer Programs") and showing the Notes pane, and then
enter the text
Ask the Board if anyone has children enrolled in summer
programs.
in the Notes pane for Slide 3.
2.
Go to Slide 2 ("Awesome Summer Programs") and copy the text "Something for
Everyone!". Go to Slide 4 ("Day Camps"), then paste the text "Something for
Everyone!"on the slide. Increase the font size of the pasted text to 32 point, and then
use Smart Guides to position the text slightly below and to the right of the slide title as
shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1: Text Positioned on Slide 4
3.
Go to Slide 6 ("Art Programs") and cut the text "Theater Programs". Go to Slide 3
("Summer Programs"), click after the text "Painting", and then paste "Theater Programs".
Press Delete to remove the extra line.
4.
With Slide 3 ("Summer Programs") still displaying, remove the hyperlink from the text
"Art Programs". Select the bulleted item "Sports Camps – NEW!", increase the font size
by four points. Insert a hyperlink from the text to the email address
summer@cengage.com.
5.
On Slide 4 ("Day Camps"), convert the three bullet items and their sub-items to a
SmartArt graphic, using the Vertical Bullet List layout.
6.
On Slide 5 ("NEW: Sports Camps!"), change the layout of the SmartArt graphic to
Bending Picture Caption List (2nd row, 6th column).
[Mac Hint – 2nd row, 5th column.]
Format the slide title "NEW: Sports Camps!" with the Offset: Bottom Left shadow style
(1st row, 3rd column in the Outer section).
7.
On Slide 6 ("Art Programs"), select the three lines of text, then create a numbered list.
Undo the action, then redo it.
8.
In Slide Sorter View, move Slide 6 ("Art Programs") so that it appears before Slide 5
("NEW: Sports Camps!"). Delete Slide 2 ("Awesome Summer Programs"). Navigate to the
new Slide 6 ("Music Programs").
9.
On Slide 6 ("Music Programs"), change the title to
Theater Programs
, then use the
placeholder to insert the picture

. Resize the
picture so that the Height is 4.0". Use Smart Guides to position the picture on the slide as
shown in Figure 2.
Figure 2: Picture Positioned on Slide 6
10.
On Slide 7 ("Swimming Lessons"), change the starting number of the numbering list to 1.
On the new number item 3, create a new line following "Riverside" without creating a
new paragraph so that "Municipal Pool" moves to the next line but does not create a
bullet. (
Hint
: Place your cursor directly before the "M" in "Municipal" so the new line is
placed correctly.)
Show the ruler. Increase the indent of all four numbered items to 1".
11.
With Slide 7 ("Swimming Lessons") still displaying, modify the picture: Resize the picture
so that the Height is 3.0" with the width adjusted automatically. Add alt text in the
Description box for the photo to read:
Young boy has his first swimming lesson
.
Move the picture so that its right edge is even with 6 on the Ruler bar. Crop the picture
by moving the bottom middle crop handle up so that most of the water under the
swimming boy is removed as shown in Figure 3. Hide the ruler.

In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save
your changes, close the presentation, and exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the SAM
website to submit your completed project.
