An overview is provided of the origin of the Cochrane Collaboration, by Dr. Archie Cochrane. Dr. Archie Cochrane was a strong proponent of supporting evidence-based randomized control trials review. The origin of his theory and the Cochrane Collaboration is that all areas of specialty should be prepared for rigorous process to generate new evidence.

Three Components Inherent to Evidence-Based Practice

The three components inherent to any evidence-based practice change are validity, reliability, and credibility. These three components are the check system to determine whether the practice is based on evidence-based research.

Seven Steps of Evidence-Based Practice Inquiry

The seven steps of evidence- based practice inquiry will guide a research process through cultivating a spirit of inquiry, asking clinical questions in PICOT, searching for the best, critically appraising the evidence, integrating the evidence with clinical expertise and patient preferences, and evaluating the outcomes of the practice decisions.

Qualities of Compelling Clinical Questions

Quality clinical questions are relevant to your clinical practice, and will be valid clinical questions that can be researched in a systematic review process. Make sure that you ask clinical questions in PICOT format, search for the best evidence, critically appraise the evidence, integrate the evidence with clinical expertise, evaluate the outcomes of the practice decisions, and disseminate the EBP results.
